What you've got to say

Meet the Podcasters!

Let's take a look at the faces behind the voices or shall we say the entertainment, wit and charm behind the mics.

Total podcast downloads per calendar half year

A top-level snapshot of our performance is interesting but we’ve got quite a considerable back catalogue of episodes now. And what might surprise you is that more than half of our downloads every week come from that back catalogue, rather than the most recent episode.

It’s entirely possible to get more downloads every week without actually increasing the number of regular listeners you have. Rather than look at the total number of downloads per week, we’re better off looking at how each new episode does over a defined period.

So, we gathered the data to take a look at how our first 135 episodes performed in their first twelve weeks of release and created this scatter plot.

Let's get nerdier, shall we?

What you can see is, while there is some noise in the data, there’s a lovely general trend going up. Onwards and upwards, we like that!

Warning, we're getting geeky again

Here we take a look at the average number of downloads per episode in their first twelve weeks for each half-year period that the podcast has been going.

Pro tip: It's not a race

If you're starting a podcast and don't see the numbers you'd like straight away, don't worry. Performance takes time and dedication. Take #TheGPPodcast, for instance. In the first six months or so, we averaged fewer than 100 downloads per episode.

Fast forward a few years and we can see that, in the first half of 2019, we’ve been averaging over 1,000 downloads per episode.
